FarWide Alert: ODFW How to check the 2021 Controlled Hunt Draw Report

By FarWide June 21, 2021

Reasons you didn’t draw a tag

Check if you drew your tag for the upcoming season. You can also learn why you did not draw your tag.

1. Hunters can view all the draw reports from their ELS Profile under “Download Controlled Hunt Reports.”

2. Select “EXCEL” to download a Microsoft Excel Version of the data.

3. The data will already be sorted and ready to filter. (Seed number at top in red.)

4. Simply select the drop-down for the ODFW ID column, enter your ID number in the search field and select OK.

5. Your ID may appear more than once if you applied for multiple choices (i.e.; 1st, 2nd, 3rd choice, etc.) in that series.

6. The average points spent column represents two different values depending on the “Application Type.

  • For “Individual” applicants, it represents the number of points for that series they had going into the draw
  • For “Party Leader” or “Party Member” it represents the average points for the party going into the draw.

7. “Points Spent” is the points spent by getting drawn and should match “Average Points” if you were successful. However, for party applicants, it will represent the number of points that individual party member had for that series. Whether drawn as an individual or as a party, every hunter successful for a 1st choice draw spends all the preference points they have for that series.

8. “Party Leaders” and their associate “Party Members” will have the same “Application Number.”

9. “Phase 1 (75 percent – Preference Point Draw) Selection Reason” is referring to the Preference Point Draw (75 percent of the authorized tags are drawn in this phase).

  • Selected — Applicant was selected in this round.
  • No Preference Points — Applicant applied for the hunt as 1st choice with 0 preference points.
  • No more tags in round — The 75 percent of authorized tags were drawn before the applicant could be selected.
  • Not enough non-resident tags — There were no more non-resident tags remaining in the 75 percent draw. For parties with a mix of resident and non-resident applicants, this will impact the entire party.
  • Not enough tags for group — The party’s application number was selected, but there were not enough tags remaining to draw the entire party.

10. “Phase 2 (25 percent – Equal Chance Draw) Selection Reason” Equal Chance Draw (the remaining 25 percent of the authorized tags are drawn in this phase).

  • Selected — Applicant was selected in this round.
  • No more tags in round — The remaining 25 percent of authorized tags were drawn before the applicant could be selected.
  • Not enough NR tags — There were no more non-resident tags available in the remaining 25 percent of tags. For parties with a mix of resident and non-resident applicants this will impact the entire party.
  • Not enough tags for group — The party’s application number was selected, but there were not enough tags remaining to draw the entire party.

IMPORTANT things to remember…

  • If selected for your 1st choice hunt in a series, you spend/lose all preference points for that series, regardless of the Phase in which you are drawn. If drawn for a 2nd, 3rd, etc. hunt choice, you retain your points for that series and accumulates one additional point.
  • If your party contains a non-resident, the entire party is treated as non-residents in the draw and must draw within the non-resident portion of the tags.
  • We do NOT draw portions of parties. If there are not enough tags remaining to draw the entire party, your party will not be drawn and the draw will continue to the next application number in line.
  • Preference points are averaged across all party members. Average preference points is only rounded up to the next point if it has a decimal of 0.51 or higher. Everything else is rounded down.
  • Both phases operate off the random seed number (shown at top of file in red) for the series and the individual/party application number. The draw counts up from the seed number until it reaches 9999999, then starts again from 0000001.
